How Many Is One?

Md. Abdullah Al Mamoon, PMP

It sounds ridiculous and foolish when one asks the question, “How many is one?” Well, this was asked by one of the legendary hero of the world history ‘Alexander The Great’. At the age of thirteen Alexander’s father Philip of Macedonia arranged for a tutor who’s name was Aristotle, one of the greatest philosopher of the world. Alexander asked his teacher Aristotle, “How many is one?” Hearing the question of his young student, Aristotle was stunned and equally got amazed. But he was not sure on that moment how to answer this question; should he answer mathematically, metaphorically or philosophically? He told his young student that he would answer on the following day. And on the next day, Aristotle answered, “One can be a great many”.

This is an excellent metaphorical equation of leadership! And for the greater good of the universe; we need many such ‘One’ for creating an exponential ‘great many’ all over the world. It sounds ridiculous and foolish when one asks the question, “How many is one?” Well, this was asked by one of the legendary hero of the world history ‘Alexander The Great’.
